Fall Sports Preview
A great deal of hard work, sweat, sore muscles, and sacrifice have been demonstrated by our athletes and coaches all summer and now it is time for our athletes to show off their increased quickness, strength, and skills.
The new school year started on a positive note as all the hard work paid off for our varsity volleyball team on Monday as they defeated Indiana Crossroads Conference opponent Beech Grove in front of a fantastic crowd.
I would encourage fans to attend as many Lutheran High School athletic events as possible. Our athletes are eager to use their God given abilities to entertain our crowds and to show everyone just how talented they are and to represent Lutheran High School in a positive image.
Lutheran High School graduate, Zach Perdue (2011), leads this year’s girls’ soccer program. The 15 girls on the squad open the regular season on Saturday, August 20, at Brown County at noon.
Ryan Baglow is starting his first year as the head coach of the boys’ soccer program. Their first game of the year against Scecina was rained out so they opened their season with a win over Monrovia on August 18. The boys’ soccer program competes at the junior varsity and varsity level.
Calvary teacher, Dave Honebrink, takes over as our cross-country coach after leading the track program for several years. The team opened its season at the Beech Grove Invitational on August 16, and continues on August 20, at the Greenwood Christian Invitational at 10:00 am.
Lutheran High School graduates Kathy Anderson (1993), Lindsay Kurz (2011), Shelby Koons(2012), and Casey Koons (2014) along with Carl Lucas make up our volleyball coaching staff. The Lady Saints are the defending sectional and regional champions. The volleyball program has freshman, junior varsity, and varsity levels.
A familiar face has taken over the boys’ tennis program. Lutheran High School teacher, Eric Vincent, is now the head coach for our girls’ and boys’ tennis programs. The nine members of the team play their next match on August 23, at home against Scecina at 4:00 pm.
Varsity football opens its season at Beech Grove on August 19, 7:00 pm. The team’s first home game is Friday, August 26, v. Cardinal Ritter. Our football team is the defending sectional champions. The junior varsity will play its first game of the year August 20, at home against Ritter at 10:30 am. Dave Pasch is once again the head coach of the Saints.
Lutheran High School graduate, Becca (Duggan) Maddigan (2010), starts her second year as the cheerleading coach. The cheerleaders will be cheering during varsity football games.
