NCA Cheerleading Camp

The 2010-2011 LHS JV & Varsity cheerleaders attended National Cheerleading Association (NCA) Camp at Vincennes University July 6 - 9. They spent four days with over 200 other cheerleaders from around the state learning cheers, chants, dances, stunts and much more.

Between the two squads, they earned spirit sticks all four days and earned the Big Spirit Stick the second day for being the most spirited squad at camp. Both squads earned two Superior ribbons, the highest score available, for their final evaluation. Both squads also received a bid to NCA Nationals for their performance throughout the week.

The Varsity Squad received the S.P.O.T. Award for showing good technique and safety while stunting and the Herkie Team Award, named after NCA’s founder and is awarded to squad who exemplify the qualities upon which NCA was founded — leadership, values, and teamwork.

Rods For Riley

On June 19, the Saints cheerleaders assisted with the 3rd Annual “Rods for Riley” Antique Car Show which took place in Historic Downtown Franklin Square. The cheerleaders helped to sell raffle tickets & snow cones to attendees. Over $13,000 was donated to Riley Children’s Hospital through the event.

Operation Basketball Cheerleaders of the Week

The Lutheran High School cheerleaders made thier return to Channel 13 as the Operation Basketball Cheerleaders of the week on Friday, February 26th. The cheerleaders performed on Friday night and were filmed for the Saturday morning highlights. Senior Night

Senior cheerleaders, Paige, Bekah, Molly, Coree, Julian, Josh & Logan were honored at senior night on February 25th. The seniors will be missed next ear for their contributions and dedication to the LHS cheerleading program. Thanks seniors!

Cheerleading Mini-Camp

On January 30th, the LHS cheerleaders held a mini-camp for 28 Kindergarten - 4th graders from nine different area grade schools.  Campers learned basic motions, jumps, chants, a cheer and a dance.  After the original game was snowed out, the mini-campers were invited to the home basketball game on February 23rd where they performed their dance to "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" with the Saints cheerleaders at halftime.

Cheerleaders Help Paul Poteet

Basketball Season is Underway

Between the fourteen cheerleaders on the Varsity squad and six on the JV squad, the Saints cheerleading squads are cheering the boy's basketball team to victory this season. The maroon squad (consisting of the junior and senior cheerleaders) and the gold squad (consisting of the freshman and sophomore cheerleaders) have also been cheering on the girls basketball team at select varsity girl's games.

Cheerleading Brunch & Fashion Show

The 2nd Annual Cheerleading Brunch & Fashion Show was held on Saturday, November 21st.  There was food, fun and fashion as the Saints cheerleaders went through the changes in cheerleading fashion over the years.  Last year was a huge success and this year's show was even better!

 

Dig Pink Volleyball Game

On October 7th, the cheerleaders participated in the "Dig Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness Volleyball Game.  The cheerleaders helped with preparations for the event and cheered on the Saints as they played against Franklin Central.  The cheerleaders were touched by the Breast Cancer survivors and fighters present that night and were honored to be a part of the event.

Cheerleading Mini-Camp

On October 3rd, the LHS cheerleaders held a mini-camp for 21 Kindergarten - 4th graders.  Campers learned basic motions, jumps, chants, a cheer and a dance.  Mini-campers were invited to the home football game on October 9th where they performed with the cheerleaders at halftime.

Cheerleaders on the Golf Course

On October 3rd, the cheerleaders shared the 13th hole with Jim Schwark at the LHS Annual Golf Outing.  Golfers were welcomed with cheers and chants as they drove the ball.  The LHS cheerleaders would like to thank Jim Schwark for volunteering his time and allowing them to share the 13th hole with him.

Operation Football Pick of the Week

On Friday, September 15th, the game at Park Tudor was voted as the Channel 13 Operation Football Pick of the Week.  Highlights of the game were shown on Channel 13.  The cheerleaders showed some support for Operation Football.

Homecoming

The cheerleaders enjoyed Homecoming week September 7th - 11th.  They sported old Saints cheerleading uniforms on one of the dress up days during Homecoming week and created a run through banner to go along with the "Superhero" homecoming theme.

Our Newest Addition

Louie, the SAINT Bernard, joined the Saints family as the first mascot for Lutheran High School.  Louie was introduced at the Homecoming game on September 11th.  Louie will join the Saints cheerleaders at all games and special events.

Cheerleaders Unite

At the first home game of the season on Friday, August 21st, the Saints cheerleaders collaborated with the Beech Grove cheerleaders for the halftime performance.  Both squads attended an NCA cheerleading camp this summer and performed the dance they had learned there.

The 2009–2010 cheerleaders attended a National Cheerleading Association (NCA) cheerleading camp at Vincennes University July 6–10. They spent four days with over 300 other cheerleaders from around the state learning cheers, chants, dances, stunts and much more.

As a squad, they earned a spirit stick all four days and earned the Big Spirit Stick the second day for being the most spirited squad at camp. The squad earned two Superior ribbons, the highest score available, for their final evaluation, received the Most Improved Team Award and the Herkie Team Award, named after NCA’s founder and is awarded to squad who exemplify the qualities upon which NCA was founded — leadership, values, and teamwork.

In addition to team awards, Paige, Julian, Kalynne, and Whitney were nominated as an All-American cheerleaders and Julian received the NCA Leadership Award, given to the one cheerleader exemplifying the best leadership qualities all week.

The Lutheran High School cheerleaders were featured as the Channel 13 Operation Basketball Cheerleaders of the week on Friday, January 23. Cheerleading Mini-Camp

On Saturday, January 24, the LHS cheerleaders hosted a mini camp for girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Campers learned basic motions, jumps, chants, a cheer and a dance.  Campers were invited to perform the cheer and dance with the LHS cheerleaders at halftime of the Varsity Boy's Basketball game that night.

Cheerleading Exhibition

Six grade school cheerleading squads performed a one and a half minute cheer and chant in the 1st annual cheerleading exhibiton on November 15 in conjunction with the Lutheran High School Grade School Boy's Basketball Tournament.  Squads included: Calvary - Indianapolis, Lutheran Central - Brownsburg, St. James - Lafayette, St. John - Indianapolis, St. Peters - Columbus, Trinity - Indianapolis.

First Annual Cheerleading Brunch & Fashion Show

On November 1, the LHS cheerleaders hosted the 1st annual cheerleading brunch and fashion show.  Former cheerleaders and supporters of the LHS cheerleading program enjoyed a morning of fun, food and fellowship.  Following the brunch, current cheerleaders modeled the LHS cheerleading uniforms  from 1979 through today.  Everyone in attendance had a great time and the cheerleaders look forward to hosting this event again next year!

Junior Saints

This was the first year for the Junior Saints cheerleading program.  For the inaugural year, there were 14 5th – 8th grade girls representing five different grade schools.  They cheered for the third season of the Junior Saints football program.  The Junior Saints play in the CYO league and competed on Sundays.  The Junior Saints cheerleaders performed at halftime with the high school cheerleaders at the home game on September 26.

Cheerleading Mini-Camp

Marion County Fair Competition

The 2008 – 2009 cheerleaders competed for the first time in the 2008 Marion County Fair on Saturday, July 26th.  The competition consisted of a two minute routine including cheering, stunts and tumbling.  After practicing all summer, the team placed second in the small varsity division for teams with 10 or fewer members.

Brickyard 400

On Sunday, July 27th, the cheerleaders arrived at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at 5:30 am to sell programs for the Brickyard 400.  The cheerleaders were set-up outside of turn three and sold programs for $10 prior to and during the race.  According to Lauren Bracken, “Working at the Brickyard was an amazing experience.  I was able to see parts of the race, which was something I had wanted to do for a long time.”  The cheerleaders made $.65 for every program sold and did not leave the Brickyard until 7:30 pm following the race.  It was a very long, fun, and interesting day!
