New Student FAQs

Q. Must my family be Lutheran to attend LHS?

A. No, LHS students come from many different religious backgrounds including Lutheran, Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian and others. Some students may have no church home at the moment. Theology (Religion) courses are part of the curriculum at LHS; each student takes a Christian theology course each year. Students also participate in Chapel service each week [usually] on Thursdays.

Q. Is Lutheran High School on a balanced calendar?

A. No, LHS continues to follow a more “traditional” school calendar. We begin in August and end in May with various breaks throughout the year, including a one-week Fall Break, two-week Christmas Break, and one-week Spring Break.

Q. Do students at Lutheran High School follow a dress code?

A. Yes, LHS maintains dress guidelines that all students must follow. Periodically, special days are designated as “Jeans for $1 Day” or other themes. Money raised on these days support various student activities or charities.

Q. How do I purchase Saints Wear clothing?

A. Shirts and sweatshirts are available for purchase at our Saints Sign-Up day held in July, and also at many home sporting events. Various student organizations sell shirts throughout the year as well. Seniors also donate back gently used shirts that are available at a discounted price. Certain items are also available throughout the year in our bookstore. See the school office for more information.

Q. What are school hours?

A. The school day starts at 8:00 am and ends at 3:15 pm, except most Wednesdays. Wednesdays are a late start for students (8:55 am) to allow faculty and staff professional development time in the morning.  The school office is open 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Q. May my child be dropped off early or picked up late?

A. Yes, school doors open at 7:00 am. Students may be dropped off in the morning at 7:00 am or anytime after. The school office is open until 4:30 pm. If your child does not have an activity or practice after school, typically students are picked up between 4:30 and 5:00 pm, or whenever the parents are available.
