Boys Basketball Game Summaries
JV Plays in the Covenant Christian Valentine Shootout -- February 10th -- Ethan Tran
Lutheran's first game was against Covenant Christian, which they played very well in. A rough start to the second half put them a little behind, but brought it back to a two point game. Unfortunately, they couldn't finish the job. A little saving grace is the "JV" squad of Covenant had 3 players scoring a combined 26 points in the VARSITY game the night before.
A second game puts them against a tough Guerin Catholic JV squad, an almost all Junior starting squad. Playing them tough as well, Lutheran had probably their best efforts of the year. Getting everyone in, Lutheran didn't falter, but still came short 2 buckets at the final buzzer. Lutheran look to make a great win against Park Tudor, on the 13 of February.
Saints Boys Basketball Falls to the University Trailblazers -- February 1 -- Jonas Akers
Thursday night, the Saints took on the #1 team in the state, the University Trailblazers.
The Saints played a very good 1A team on Thursday night, falling by 13. Matt Alter led the game with 10 points. The Saints played the best they have all year. They didn’t let the numbers get in their head before the game, and didn’t let the Trailblazers get to them. Max Lowry and Clayton Pittman were both 50% from the free throw line.
The Saints invite everyone out Friday night to see them face off against the 2-12 Speedway Sparkplugs. The varsity plays at 7:30, pack the house. The boys only have two home games after this, so we want to show our support.
Saints Boys Basketball Falls to the Brebeuf Jesuit Braves -- January 9 -- Jonas Akers
Tuesday night, the Saints took on a very experienced Brebeuf basketball team, falling 82-37.
The Saints played a very senior-heavy team from Brebeuf Jesuit. The Braves had seven seniors and they pulled out a win against the Saints. The Saints were playing for the county tournament in the first round. Notable highlights from the Saints were Clayton Pittman and Max Lowry being100% from the free throw line, and Matt Alter leading the team with nine points. The Saints managed to keep it close in the first half, Brebeuf turned up the intensity in the second half but held the Saints to only fourteen more points. The Braves played a hard full court press the entire second half, and kept the intensity going.
The team invites everyone out to Beech Grove on Friday night, to see a good basketball game and the results of the Chick-fil-A challenge. The Saints look to improve their record to 4-11 on the season.

Saints Basketball Falls Hard Against GCA -- December 9 -- Jonas Akers
Saturday night, the Saints took a hard loss to the Cougars of Greenwood Christian, falling 71-57.
Saturday night the Saints traveled for their first time this season, and brought a good crowd with them. It was hard for the Saints to adapt to a new court at first, but eventually they found their groove in the second half. The leading scorer, Riley Wilson, dropped 20 of the 57 points scored throughout the entire game. Overall the Saints took a lot of fouls and that’s what ended up costing them the game.
They look forward to playing a 1-3 Southwestern team on Friday night, for their second away game of the year. The Saints get no rest and come back the following day to fight the Cardinal Ritter Raiders, for their first home matchup in over two weeks.
Saints fall in Opener - December 1 -- Mark Caster
Last Friday, your Boys Varsity Basketball team matched up with the Chargers of Central Christian. The first game of the season left many fans worried, wondering what a team who needed to replace 80% of last year’s scoring could actually do on a Varsity basketball floor…and I think its safe to say that the Saints’ performance left many fans leaving the gymnasium relieved. No, they didn’t win. A late Charger run in the 3rd quarter left the game just out of reach of your Saints as they spurred back in the 4th. But any morsel of doubt that your Saints can contend this year is certainly at rest. Maximum effort, stellar defense, and overall incredible ball play foreshadowed the season ahead, and the opportunity and potential to grow, learn, and become even better. Your Saints travel to Greenwood Christian Academy on Saturday. Lutheran leads the overall series 7-1. Come out and cheer them on as they prepare to get their eighth!
