NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION (for all freshmen and transfer students and their parents) – Tuesday, August 3, 6:00 pm – Free family dinner and orientation.

SAINTS SIGN-UP DAYS – Wednesday, August 4 and Thursday, August 5, 1:00 –7:00 pm

These days are set aside as a one-stop shop to start the year right. Following is a Saints Sign-Up Days checklist:

  • School pictures will be taken (uniforms not required).   The ID picture is free.  School picture order forms will be available for anyone who wants to order more pictures.  Seniors must go to PrestigeIndiana.com to make an appointment for their yearbook pictures or call 829-2075.
  • Course fee payments are due these two days: August 4 or 5 ($360 for all students plus an extra $100 fee for seniors).
  • Return completed forms (Emergency Release Form, Health Emergency Form, and Learning Well, Inc. Informed Consent form).
  • Bring a copy of your student’s updated immunization records signed by your physician or a public health physician.  (Indiana State Law IC 20-34-4-5 states:  “Each school shall require the parent of a student who has enrolled in the school to furnish not later than the first day of school a written statement of the students’ immunization, accompanied by the physician’s certificates or other documentation, unless a written statement of this nature is on file with the school.”)  Please note that the Immunization Requirements have changed for this year.  (Click here.)
  • Receive health plan forms for chronic health issues.
  • Bring IHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form for sports if completed (must be turned in before first school practice).
  • Freshmen and returning students will receive schedules and students can resolve schedule conflicts with help from Mrs. Brock, Guidance Counselor.
  • Uniform shirts (both new and used) will be available.
  • Locker assignments will be given.
  • Student Planners will be given to you (required for each student – no extra cost).
  • Sports Pocket Calendar for fall sports will be available.
  • Register/Pay for a car parking permit.  All students who drive to school must register their vehicles and receive a car parking permit for an annual fee of $5.00 for each permit (This is to defray parking lot maintenance, snow removal, etc.)
  • Sign up for volunteer activities such as Kristi’s Games.

OPENING SERVICE AND SCHOOL START TIMES

  • Opening Service – Tuesday, August 10, 7:00 pm.  Afterward, the building will be open for all who would like a tour.  Seniors and their parents will meet after the service to hear details about the senior retreat.
  • First Day of School – Wednesday, August 11, 8:00 am to 3:15 pm.
  • School Start/End Times – Classes will be held from 8:00 am to 3:15 pm every day except Wednesdays.   Wednesday school days will usually begin at 9:00 am and end at 3:15 pm.  The only dates that Wednesdays will have an 8:00 am start are August 11 for the first day and December 22 and May 18 during final exams.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT

All parents are encouraged and expected to attend our “Back-to-School Night” on Monday, August 23 beginning at 7:00 pm. This is a very important evening for all families as it allows parents to:

  • have the opportunity to experience their student's daily class schedule and meet all teachers;
  • discover what is taught in classes, classroom procedures, major assignments, and grading systems;
  • receive your family’s P.A.S.S. PIN Number (provides parents and students access to grades online)

ATHLETIC NEWS

  • Physical exam forms must be turned in – no form, no practice!!! The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) requires all participating student athletes of inter-scholastic sports to have completed a yearly physical examination and to have this on file at their school before they are allowed to practice in their sport.  Official start dates for fall sports are: Girls’ golf:  July 30; Cross Country, Football, Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer, Boys’ Tennis, and Girls’ Volleyball: August 2. Forms may be obtained online from www.lhsi.org or from the school office. Click here for the times of the first official practices for these fall sports.
  • Parent Athletic MeetingWednesday, August 11, 7:00 pm.  Parents of all students who will participate in fall athletics at Lutheran High are expected to attend this meeting in the Lilly Auditorium.
  • Sports Boosters – The LHSI Sports Boosters is comprised of Lutheran High parents and other LHSI supporters. This organization underwrites the cost of the major portion of our athletic program. They will again be active this year with a number of projects which will require your help; when a caller asks you for your assistance, please lend a hand.
  • Kristi’s Games – August 28, 2:00–7:00 pm – The eighth annual Kristi’s Games – The Lutheran FamJam will include activities and games at Lutheran High School.  Start planning early for a fun-filled family day.
  • Homecoming – Homecoming week will be September 20–25.  Saints Games and the Homecoming Football Game will take place on Friday, September 24.  The Homecoming Dance will be on Saturday, September 25, 7:00–10:00 pm.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Freshmen and Developmental Reading students must have a different colored folder, with pockets and prongs, for each class (or a large three ring binder with a different colored pocket folder for each class).

All students are expected to bring:

  • Pens, pencils, loose-leaf paper, and folders to store papers with them for every class where such items are needed.  (Spiral notebooks are not allowed.)
  • A student planner where students can keep a record of daily assignments.  (All students will be using a student planner issued with their book fees, to be picked up on Saints Sign-Up Days August 4 and 5.)
  • Book covers (The student is responsible for the proper care of all textbooks.) Tight book covers which break the bindings of books are not permitted.
  • A calculator for math courses, if needed. Click here for a list of recommended calculators.

DRESS GUIDELINES – The dress guidelines have been established to assist you in determining what is proper and what is improper in our school setting.  Uniforms are available in the LHSI Bookstore or by special order through the LHSI office.  New and used uniform shirts will be available for purchase during Saints Sign-Up Days. WEBSITE – It is important to check out www.lhsi.org for information about school calendars, admissions, courses, athletics, and much more.  For those who have e-mail addresses, Saints @ Home is sent on Thursday of most weeks. This e-mail communication gives weekly information and updates in a short, concise format.  Saints @ Home is also included as a link on the lhsi.org website and you can sign up to receive it via e-mail there.  Visit www.HighSchoolSports.net for up-to-date athletic information.  You may register on that website to receive email notifications regarding athletic event schedule changes.

TEE IT UP! – The 18th Annual Lutheran High Golf Outing presented by Service Pipe and Supply is Saturday, October 2 at Maple Creek Country Club.  Play in the morning in our Saints Mini – a 9 hole Mixed Doubles Foursome event with an 8:00 tee time.  Lunch is at 10:45.  At 12:00 noon, the 18 hole Scramble begins, with Hole in One prizes for each par 3 hole.  Prizes include $5,000 (half to the school/half to the golfer) and a $2,500 tuition credit. LuFEST – Save the date, Saturday, March 19, 2011 as we celebrate our 29th Annual LuFEST Dinner Auction.  During Saints Sign Up Days, be sure to sign up to be part of this very special event – your partnership will help make this one the best one yet!
