Saints Notes March 5, 2010 Sunny skies. Temperatures above freezing. It must be March! Of course, March can also mean snowstorms, rain, and blustery days. While I spied some Robins about a month ago, the first sign of spring I noticed yesterday when I saw the ground being worked up for flower gardens. Isn't that a little premature? I guess coming from Wisconsin, you don't start sticking stuff in the ground until May, and even then it could be subject to a freeze. March means Speech Sectionals for the fighting Saints Forensics Team. (Ok, we really don't fight all that much. Actually, we don't fight at all.) It's off to Greensburg for the third go-round against 14 other schools and more than 200 other entries as our students look to earn a trip to the State Finals in their speech catagory. We have been blessed in that each year of the program's existence (going strong since 2008) we have qualified someone for the State Meet. This year's team is larger than last season and the talent level is such I'm expecting a great day tomorrow no matter the outcome. Tomorrow is big for another reason - it means it is only TWO WEEKS LEFT UNTIL LUFEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As Vince Lombardi used to say, 'Gentlemen, tomorrow begins the big push!' Next week, we begin the final countdown scramble of collecting the remaining outstanding gifts to be cataloged, photographed, and stored until moving day to our event location. Seating arrangements get finalized and last minute details worked out. Daryn Wilkins is in her second year as Chair and has a great team working with her to produce this year's 28th Annual Dinner Auction. Our LuFest Online Auction is in the capable hands of Rick Lacy, Bill Slade, and Carrie Robinson. So, if you can't make the event downtown be sure to check out the online auction. (Click on LHSI Auction from our homepage.) The event raises money to support the students and faculty of Lutheran High School and this year's special appeal will help us re-carpet some classrooms that badly need to replace some thread-bare floors. Continue to pray for LuFest - that we might be able to share the story of God's blessings at Lutheran High School! |
