Saints Notes June 28, 2010 This past weekend, for the fifth time - I had the opportunity to ride in the NITE (Navigate Indianapolis This Evening) Ride sponsored by the Central Indiana Bicycling Association. The first big advantage was the 11pm start time meant no sun to contend with over the twenty miles of the ride through the downtown streets of Indianapolis, it also was marginally cooler after another baking day in central Indiana. The Ride attracts the very casual rider and some serious riders as well (more than 3,800 total this year) to do something most of us would not do otherwise - hop on a bike and ride past the Capitol, Monument Circle, and other city landmarks under the cover of darkness. It's the single most fun thing I've done on a bike. There is a great spirit in the air as folks ride bikes (some all decked out with Christmas lights and LED strings) and return to the Major Taylor Velodrome for live music and a spaghetti dinner. Today, I'm working on a different type of Spirit activity - the Lutheran High Spirit Days/Nights. We hold these throughout the school year in cooperation with restaurants around Indy - as friends and family of Lutheran High gather at the selected restaurants for a night of fun and food - and the restaurant shares back a portion of the proceeds with us here at the high school. Not all dates have been confirmed yet, but we will be at Incredible Pizza Company in September, Texas Roadhouse in October, Arni's in January, and Chick-Fil-A in May. By the time school starts - we should have 11 dates on the calendar. The Spirit Days/Nights are a great time to gather and celebrate Lutheran High, and we need to eat anyway, right? Have a great week and a safe and happy Fourth of July! |
