Saints Notes February 3, 2012 Have a Super Day! Have a Super Night! No, YOU have a Super Day!! It's a phrase that sticks after saying it hundreds of folks over the course of five hours while serving as a 'crossing guard' of sorts at the corner of Washington and Capital on the south corner of the Statehouse grounds last night. It was my pleasure to be a very, very small piece of the volunteer force that is helping Indianapolis show the NFL that we can host a major event and even a football game that the world will watch late Sunday afternoon. 98% of the people I either helped with directions, or had to tell them, that, no - you can't cross the street here, but there are ways to cross Washington a little farther down the block - were pleasant and fun to visit with during the three days I volunteered. I'm not really a Hoosier, but a Cheesehead my whole life. However, I will say that this week - like the other times I've been able to serve as a volunteer as Indy hosted the Swim Nationals or the Women's or Men's Final Fours during the last several years - it's been rather cool to be just a small part of the puzzle that is hosting Giants and Patriots and their legions of fans. I appreciate the oppportunity to have been a part of this big event, and it reminds me of the superb value we all get from being volunteers or recruiting volunteers or benefiting from their service. Volunteers are the glue that holds much of our country together. Right now, dozens of folks are volunteering hours of time and energy to pull together our 30th Annual LuFest Dinner Auction - that is just 37 days away now - Saturday, March 10, 2012 - and it's with great appreciation and a tip of the hat to Marilee, Cris, and the members of the teams working on various aspects of Lutheran High's biggest event. You could say, it's our Super Bowl. I look forward to seeing you there, so I can wish you a very super night! |
