JUNE 3–28

SUMMER CAMP

OVERVIEW

The camp is designed for students to have a positive experience as they actively participate in the preparation of a fully produced musical. They will build performance skills including singing, dancing, and acting. Most importantly, they will grow in confidence, self-esteem, personal responsibility, teamwork, musical and theatrical skills, and make new friends from different schools.

Camp will be in two groups: 1st–3rd Graders and 4th–8th Graders, limited to 25 participants in each group

Just as in sports, theatre offers students a unique opportunity to strengthen real-world life skills, including:

  • Respect towards others
  • How to promote teamwork

  • The rewards of hard work

  • Self-discipline
  • How to be a humble winner and how to lose gracefully  (especially after being cast in a principal role vs an ensemble role)
  • How to build and increase self-confidence

  • How to budget time
  • Develop skills to handle competitive situations

We will be producing Roald Dahl’s “Matilda Jr.” The camp will be directed by Emily McDuffee (Junior Saints director for "The Little Mermaid"), Ms. Kathryn Rohlfing (Director of “And Then There Was One”), and produced by Matthew Frick (LHS Musical Director/ Director of Christian Community at St John Lutheran Church and School) and will be assisted by high school volunteers from LHS.
